A few days ago, I had the opportunity to learn from Tony Robbins, and something he said truly stuck with me:

“To influence another human being, you have to know what influences them.”

It’s simple, yet profound.

Think about your personal relationships. Is there someone—perhaps a child, a friend, or a team member—who is easier to guide than others? That’s because you’ve learned how to influence them.

So, how do we apply this to business and leadership?

Understanding What Influences People

Influence is directly tied to state—both yours and theirs.

✔ How do they feel?
✔ How do you feel?
✔ What kind of energy do you bring?

If you want to influence someone, you must create emotion. And emotion is created through motion.

According to Tony Robbins, influence follows a simple formula:

State → Action → Result

Most people focus on their actions or the results they want to change. But the real secret is to focus on your state first.

How to Change Your State and Influence Others

There are two primary ways to shift state:

1️⃣ Physiology – Change your body, and you change your mind.

• Move your body (exercise, dance, stretch).

• Change what you’re listening to (uplifting music, inspiring speeches).

• Adjust what you’re looking at (nature, motivational content).

2️⃣ Focus – Where focus goes, energy flows.

• Ask powerful questions.

• Redirect attention to solutions instead of problems.

When you control your state, you control your emotions. And when you control your emotions, you control your influence.

Influence = Control Over Your Life

Most people allow their environment to dictate their emotions. But that’s a choice.

By mastering influence, you take control of your life, your business, and your relationships. New state = new behavior = new results.
