Whatever It Takes: The Real Lesson from Light It Up Expo
Two weeks ago, we wrapped up Light It Up Expo in Orlando—and honestly… it was awesome.
With over 270 tickets sold, packed pre-show classes, standing-room-only training sessions, incredible vendors, and powerful speakers, the energy in the room was unmatched. But what stood out the most wasn’t the lighting.
It was this: whatever it takes.
One of the biggest ideas we talked about during the Expo was simple, but powerful:
If you want something you’ve never had, you must be willing to do something you’ve never done.
And the truth is—it hits hard because it’s real.
The way you think, hire, price, act, and make decisions has brought you to where you are today. But if you want to reach the next level, you can’t keep operating the same way. You have to become a different version of yourself.
Most people don’t get what they want because they refuse to change how they operate.
One lesson that stands out—and something many wish they learned earlier—is this:
Price like the company you want to become.
In the early days of running a lighting business, it’s easy to wonder how bigger companies afford sales teams, maintenance crews, and large-scale operations. The assumption is that they’ve already “made it.”
But the reality?
They didn’t wait to become that company.
They acted like it first.
By shifting pricing strategies, something interesting happens. Suddenly, there’s more money in the business—$50K, $60K, even $100K more. That opens doors to hiring, building a team, and scaling operations.
Growth starts with a decision.
But here’s the part most people don’t talk about:
When you start acting like the person you want to become… it feels uncomfortable.
It feels like imposter syndrome.
You’re making decisions as someone you’re not—yet.
And that’s exactly the point.
You’re rewiring your identity. You’re choosing to think and act from the perspective of your future self, not your current situation. That’s where real growth begins.
Comfort will always try to hold you back—telling you to keep prices low, avoid risks, delay hiring, and stay safe.
But sometimes, discomfort is the signal.
Fear doesn’t always mean stop.
Sometimes fear means you’re leveling up.
Light It Up Expo was filled with unforgettable moments—packed training sessions, deep conversations, late-night idea sharing, and a community fully committed to growth.
But the biggest takeaway?
People didn’t just learn.
They took action.
Some contractors closed deals immediately after the event. Others implemented new strategies the very next day. Many stepped into opportunities they would’ve avoided before.
That’s the difference between attending an event… and changing your life.
Because in the end, you don’t need pages of notes.
You need one move.
Find the biggest constraint in your business—the one thing that, if solved, would change everything.
Then go all-in.
No backup plan.
Burn the boats.
Do whatever it takes.
Light It Up Expo this year was truly something special. Huge thanks to the vendors, sponsors, speakers, and everyone who showed up ready to grow.
And yes… Light It Up Expo 2027 is already in the works. Location announcement coming soon 👀
Until then—
Go do the hard thing.
Because the next level of your life is waiting for the version of you that’s willing to do whatever it takes.
Keep moving forward,
Ryan Lee
