Why Going Halfway in Business Makes You Look Ridiculous

Two years ago at our second annual Secrets Summit, I pulled one of the boldest stunts of my career. I walked into the room late, with the audience and even my own team wondering where I was. When I finally appeared, gasps filled the room—because half of my beard was gone.

One side of my face looked perfectly normal (well, as normal as I can look 😅). The other side? Like I had lost a terrible bet.

But here’s the truth: I did it on purpose.

It wasn’t about shock value—it was a visual lesson. Because nothing drives home the danger of going halfway better than looking half-shaved.

And that’s exactly what I wanted business owners to see: halfway looks ridiculous.

Think about it:
👉 You say you want growth, but only go halfway in your marketing.
👉 You want freedom, but only halfway train your team.
👉 You want profit, but only halfway commit to your pricing.

Halfway doesn’t work. In fact, it’s the slowest, most painful path you can choose.

The entrepreneurs who go all in—those are the ones who scale faster, gain freedom, and actually enjoy the journey. The ones who dabble halfway? They stay stressed, stuck, and constantly struggling.

So here’s my challenge for you this week:

⚡ Identify one area of your business where you’ve been half-committed.
⚡ Decide to go all in.

Maybe it’s finally raising your prices. Hiring that next team member. Or actually dedicating time to marketing instead of squeezing it in “when you can.”

Whatever it is, stop dabbling. Stop “trying.” Stop half-assing it.

Go all in.

Because the fastest way to look foolish—in business and in life—is to go halfway.
And the fastest way to win? Is to commit fully.

Keep Moving Forward,
Ryan Lee
