A couple of weeks ago, my schedule was packed with coaching calls and strategy sessions. It was a busy but fulfilling week.
At the end of one of these strategy sessions, a participant expressed their desire to join our program but mentioned it was too expensive for them at the moment. They hoped to have more time and money in a few months. This conversation reminded me of a powerful speech by Myron Golden, which had a profound impact on my perspective.
During his speech, Myron asked the audience a thought-provoking question: “What are your two biggest expenses?” As I reflected on this question, I considered various possibilities. However, Myron’s answers surprised me:
Taxes
The cost of not knowing something
Yes, the cost of not knowing something is considered the second biggest expense. This concept highlights the idea of opportunity cost, which doesn’t appear on a profit and loss statement but significantly affects our lives and businesses.
Consider what it costs you not to take action on something. For example:
Attending a lighting conference
Educating yourself on better lighting design
Learning about other products
Personal development
Reading a book
Joining Landscape Lighting Secrets
Time is our greatest asset, and everyone has the same amount of it each day. Regardless of wealth, we all get 24 hours that reset daily. However, the wealthy have mastered the art of leveraging their time more effectively.
Reflect on your daily activities. How much time do you spend scrolling through social media? How much time do you dedicate to challenging tasks that drive progress?
Do hard things.
Everyone dreams of vacations but often balks at the cost. Similarly, if you want to be in shape, start working out. If you want happiness, give more of your time to others. If you aim to make more money, tackle the difficult tasks you tend to avoid:
Hire someone to assist you
Role-play your sales process
Ask for referrals
Call a landscape architect
By embracing these hard tasks, you continuously move the needle and improve every single day. Take action now to avoid the hidden costs of inaction.
