Attitude Is a Choice: The Leadership Factor That Shapes Your Business

The other day I was on a call with a client and I asked him how things were going.

He said, “Oh you know… it’s a Monday.”

And I stopped him right there.

I said, “Wait… what does that mean?”

Because years ago I learned something that changed my life:
You get to choose your attitude every single day.

Now, it’s not always easy.

When people quit, when customers are upset, when cash flow is tight, when your business feels chaotic—choosing a positive attitude becomes harder.

And yes, when everything is going your way—when deals are closing and momentum is high—it’s much easier.

But here’s the truth: your circumstances do not control your attitude. You do.

As an entrepreneur, this matters even more because your team feels your energy whether you say anything or not. You are the leader. Your attitude sets the tone for your entire company.

It’s okay to have hard days. It’s okay to feel frustrated or pressured. But you can’t stay there.

You have to process it, reset, and then choose again: gratitude, belief, and positivity.

Because the faster you do that, the faster you get yourself out of the valley and back into momentum.

And honestly, if you dread Mondays, something deeper might be going on.

Maybe your business is too chaotic.
Maybe you’re constantly putting out fires.
Maybe your systems are broken.
Maybe your culture needs work.
Or maybe you simply haven’t built anything into your week that actually excites you.

Successful business owners don’t just react to problems—they prepare before them.

They build systems.
They create structure.
They lead intentionally.

That way, they spend less time reacting and more time growing.

I had another conversation the same day with someone who said, “It’s just hard to find good people. Nobody wants to work anymore.”

But is that really true?

Because there are businesses all around attracting great people. The difference is not luck. The difference is culture, focus, and leadership.

If you believe nobody wants to work, that belief will shape what you see and what you attract.

Because thoughts shape beliefs.
Beliefs shape actions.
Actions shape results.

That’s not motivation—that’s how reality works.

I’ve even seen this in my own experience.

We had a role open in one of my companies for months. At first, I kept thinking, “Why can’t we find the right person?”

But the truth was simple: I wasn’t giving it focused attention.

Once I became intentional about it, everything shifted—and suddenly, we had several highly qualified candidates interested.

Your focus shapes your outcomes more than you realize.

I want to end with a quote that has stayed with me since I was 19 years old, serving a mission in Portugal.

I walked into an apartment one day feeling homesick, discouraged, and overwhelmed. On the fridge was this quote:

“The longer I live, the more I realize the impact of attitude on life. Attitude to me is more important than facts… more important than the past, than education, than money, than circumstances, than failures, than successes… We have a choice every day regarding the attitude we embrace for that day.” — Charles Swindoll

One line has always stood out to me:
“Life is 10% what happens to me and 90% how I react to it.”

That applies to business.
That applies to leadership.
That applies to life.

So if you’re struggling right now, don’t just look at your situation—check your attitude.

It might be the very thing shaping your future.

Keep Moving Forward,
