Price Like Who You Want to Be: Reflections and Insights from Landscape Lighting Secrets

A couple of weeks ago, I posted a video on Facebook, revisiting a memory from four years ago. It was a live broadcast from the early days of launching Landscape Lighting Secrets. It’s incredible to look back and see the progress made in just four years.

In that video, I had long hair—my COVID-19 look, if you will—and at the end of it, I shared a tip on pricing. This tip was a reminder of how much I used to emphasize the importance of pricing, as it’s one of the easiest ways to help your business grow.

Just recently, I spoke with a client who joined Landscape Lighting Secrets over a year ago. He’s been implementing everything we discuss in the program, including raising his prices. He’s now generating over $1 million in revenue annually. This client is a different person compared to a year ago, with a transformed company and a wealth of new experiences. And guess what? He’s planning to raise his prices again.

He reminded me of a crucial piece of advice:

Price like who you want to be.

No matter where you are in your business journey, this principle applies if you’re aiming for growth. Wealthy individuals don’t worry about the cost; they focus on the value.

Consider what a 10% price increase can do for you. How many fixtures do you install per year? Can this increase help you afford to join Landscape Lighting Secrets, hire an office manager, or invest in advertising to build your marketing machine?

Raising your price by just $25 per light can make a significant difference. Whether you have a complex pricing spreadsheet or price by the light, simply add $25 to your next job. That’s pure profit.

If you install 1,000 lights a year, that’s an extra $25,000 in profit—boom! With inflation, raising your prices by 10% annually is essential to keep up. This straightforward adjustment can pay for an entire year of Landscape Lighting Secrets and provide funds to reinvest in your business, allowing for continued growth and further price increases.

Remember, pricing strategically isn’t just about covering costs; it’s about positioning your business for future success and embodying the entrepreneur you aspire to be.
