How One Word Can Shape Your Business: What's Your Focus?

Recently, I started working with a new coach, and one of the first exercises we did was incredibly impactful. I was asked to choose a word that I want to make a priority for the next 12 months. This word would act as a filter for every decision I make, defining my trajectory for the year ahead.

After much thought, I chose the word Focus.

The reason behind it is simple: I have a tendency to lack focus. And this year, I want to change that.

Now, this exercise isn't just about focus. Your word could be anything—family, fun, health, abundance, or even happiness. The idea is to pick a word that resonates with your goals and values and helps shape your decision-making for the next 12 months.

Every time you face a decision, ask yourself: Does this align with my filter word?

For me, focus means saying NO to some good opportunities to make space for the great ones. I've turned down speaking engagements, partnerships, and even events to focus on what truly matters to me. And it's been incredibly helpful over the past few months.

So, I challenge you: What word will define your next 12 months? Pick a word that aligns with your personal or business goals, and use it as your daily, weekly, and monthly guide.

If you’re unsure where to start, join us in the Landscape Lighting Secrets Facebook group (add link), and share your word so we can hold each other accountable.

As I reflect on my word, I can't help but ask: What are you focusing on in your business right now?

If I had a lighting business in today’s economy, I’d focus on a few key areas:

  • Pricing: Are your prices correct? (Hint: You might want to raise them!)

  • Closing Rate: Is your close rate high enough? It needs to be dialed in.

  • Lead Quality: Focus on high-quality leads, not just any leads.

  • Team Satisfaction: What are you doing to attract and retain top talent?

  • Growth Budget: Are you allocating enough resources for growth, whether it's advertising or hiring?

That’s a quick overview, but if you have questions, feel free to reach out.

Remember: Focus can make all the difference. Choose your word wisely, and keep moving forward!
